The short answer

Is it right for your rack?

Shortlist the PR1500RT2UC when its 1,500 W rating, eight 5-15R outlets and rack/tower format match the project. It offers more rated watt capacity than the APC compared here; runtime and reliability superiority are not established.

Fits: A 120 V rack or tower installation that needs a 1,500 W rated output and a compatible shutdown/monitoring plan.

Look elsewhere: 208/230 V deployments, projects requiring online double conversion, or purchases where the seller substitutes the older PR1500RT2U.

Evidence: manufacturer documentationWe have not physically tested this model. Performance, acoustic behavior, battery condition, and real-world runtime are unverified. Recommendations are editorial inferences from linked specifications.

The tradeoffs

Reasons to shortlist

  • 1,500 W and 1,500 VA ratings are stated separately.
  • Eight battery-backup and surge-protected receptacles.
  • Rack or tower format and built-in cloud monitoring.

Reasons to pause

  • Similar naming to the discontinued PR1500RT2U.
  • Optional network card is a separate integration decision.
  • Vendor runtime figures are not a matched-load comparison.

The UC suffix is part of the specification

CyberPower’s PR1500RT2UC is the model assessed here. The similarly named PR1500RT2U is listed separately as discontinued. A retailer’s shortened title can make those look interchangeable, so compare the full model on the listing, datasheet and carton.

This is especially relevant when buying used or replacement equipment. A family resemblance does not prove identical monitoring, accessories or support. Our recommendation applies to the current UC model and should not be transferred to another SKU without checking its documentation.

More watts, with limits still to check

CyberPower rates this unit at 1,500 VA and 1,500 W. Against the APC SMT1500RM2UC’s 1,000 W rating, that is 500 W more rated real-power capacity. It is a capacity difference, not a measurement of efficiency, reliability or battery endurance.

Both limits still apply. Evaluate the measured load, expected growth, equipment compatibility and project requirements. A UPS’s output rating does not tell you whether the building supply and the rest of the distribution path are suitable. Follow the manufacturer’s installation requirements and have the site supply assessed where necessary.

Read runtime at your rack’s watts

The manufacturer lists 18.2 minutes at half load and 6.5 minutes at full load. For this 1,500 W model those points correspond to 750 W and 1,500 W. They are vendor figures, not Rack Headroom measurements.

Use the manufacturer runtime resources for the load you intend to support, and decide whether the objective is bridging a short interruption or completing a controlled shutdown. No launch article on this site contains a measured runtime result, fan-noise test or battery-aging study.

Cloud visibility and shutdown deserve a plan

The product includes a cloud monitoring path and offers an optional RMCARD205. Check the exact remote management features and card inclusion rather than reading “network capable” as “network card supplied.”

List the hosts, switches and storage devices that must remain powered during shutdown. Then verify the software and communication path for each. A dashboard alert is useful, but a successful shutdown depends on a tested end-to-end workflow. We have not validated one on this hardware.

The family manual also states that USB and serial cannot operate simultaneously: using USB disables serial. Account for that limit when planning the communication path to more than one host.

Battery service and mounting hardware

CyberPower lists one RB1290X4J replacement cartridge containing four 12 V / 9 Ah sealed lead-acid batteries. Its replacement-cartridge warranty is 18 months, separate from the UPS’s three-year warranty including its original batteries. Check current replacement availability and cost before choosing a used unit.

For four-post rack installation, the family manual identifies CP2RAIL02 as a separate purchase for PR1500RT2UC. The listed two-post brackets and tower hardware do not establish that four-post rails are supplied. Confirm the seller’s bundle and rack compatibility before ordering.

Check these before you order

  1. Match PR1500RT2UC exactly, including suffix and US electrical configuration.
  2. Confirm voltage, input plug, output receptacles and the complete load path.
  3. Verify rack depth, mounting accessories, weight and service clearance in the installation guide.
  4. Confirm included management features, software compatibility, warranty, seller, and replacement parts.
Installation context matters.Product specifications do not establish that equipment suits a particular facility. Follow manufacturer instructions and applicable site requirements; use qualified electrical assessment for supply and installation decisions.

Make the next step a model check.
