The useful answer

What should drive the choice?

Use 1,920VA and 1,920W as the APC rated basis unless Schneider resolves the higher configurable fields for the intended installation. Choose the CyberPower only after its 2,000VA and 2,000W configuration passes the same source, runtime and mounting checks.

Resolve the APC rating before comparing capacity

The APC SMT2200RM2UC and CyberPower PR2000RT2UC can enter the same 120V rack shortlist, but the names invite a misleading comparison. The APC manufacturer records reviewed here distinguish rated output from higher maximum-configurable fields. Its rated basis is 1,920VA and 1,920W. The CyberPower is listed at 2,000VA and 2,000W for the cited nominal conditions. Comparing 2200 in one title with 2000 in another does not establish that the APC can carry the larger accepted load.

Keep the unresolved APC field distinction visible in the quote. Ask Schneider or the authorized supplier to identify the applicable rating and installation conditions in writing if the design depends on a higher figure. Do not average the values or choose whichever makes the proposed load fit. This article is documentation-based research. We have not operated the units or established a measured performance advantage for either product.

An 80W difference can create an awkward narrow shortlist

The difference between the stated rated watt ceilings is only 80W. At a hypothetical 1,500W requirement, both can remain candidates if VA, source and runtime also pass. At a hypothetical 1,950W requirement, the APC rated basis is exceeded while the CyberPower’s stated watt ceiling is not. That leaves only 50W against the latter ceiling. It does not establish a satisfactory growth allowance, acceptable transient behavior or an adequate runtime. A narrow arithmetic pass is a prompt to inspect the requirement, not an automatic purchase recommendation.

Record the normal demand, supported peak conditions and any surviving-path requirement separately. A dual-cord server arrangement can change demand on a UPS after another path disappears, so a normal operating observation may not represent the deciding case. If the accepted future or failure load exceeds 2,000W, neither candidate answers the complete requirement. Consider another supported capacity class rather than relying on a product-name interpretation or an unapproved overload interval.

A common input shape still needs an approved supply

Both cited units use a 5-20P input arrangement, but do not infer that any receptacle accepting that connection is approved for the planned load. Obtain the source voltage, available capacity, shared-load information and installation requirements from the facility owner. Review the actual delivered input configuration against the manufacturer instructions. This comparison supplies no basis for replacing a plug, using an improvised adapter or changing upstream protection.

If a rack currently uses a 5-15P UPS, include the source review before treating either candidate as a straightforward capacity replacement. Facility work can affect schedule, cost and which site can receive a standardized configuration. Keep that work as its own line item rather than obscuring it inside the UPS purchase. The output watt rating describes one part of the system; it does not approve the whole path from supply to equipment.

The outlet mix changes how the rack can be wired

The APC combines six 5-15R receptacles with two 5-20R receptacles. CyberPower lists eight 5-20R outputs. Map each equipment cord and any approved downstream PDU to the specific output intended for it. Do not reduce the comparison to eight outlets on each unit. The connector type, any documented outlet grouping and the equipment’s own cord requirements still matter. A larger input class does not grant every individual connection the aggregate output rating.

A pre-existing PDU can simplify cord organization while introducing its own current and connector limits. Check those independently when migrating the UPS. Also identify which network devices must remain alive to deliver shutdown messages. A rack can contain spare receptacles while all of its accepted capacity is already committed, or have sufficient electrical headroom but too few appropriately located connections. Preserve both the load worksheet and the physical outlet map.

Use the same watts and the actual shutdown sequence

Request manufacturer runtime references at the accepted demand, not at the same fraction of each unit’s advertised rating. A half-load reference for the APC rated watt basis differs from half of the CyberPower rating. Even where those values are fairly close, a matched-load comparison is more defensible and repeatable. Keep battery configuration, nominal voltage and estimate conditions with the selected reference. We do not infer duration from the 80W difference.

The service owner should provide the required detection and shutdown timeline independently. Include application stop time, storage dependencies and any network management components. A UPS capable of supporting the operating load can still provide too short a battery interval for the planned sequence. If longer runtime is required, review an explicitly supported expandable model and its complete battery configuration. Neither an available rear connector nor a similar family name establishes that external battery expansion is supported on the exact SKU being quoted.

Include supports and management in the comparison

Compare the complete mechanical envelope using exact drawings and rail instructions. Rack height alone does not establish post-spacing compatibility, usable depth or rear cable clearance. Include service access and the handling arrangement for the delivered unit. A used listing may omit supports or substitute a generic mounting photograph, so ask for model-specific package evidence. We have not physically compared rail fit, and no visual similarity should be treated as that test.

For management, distinguish the APC SmartConnect path and optional card arrangements from CyberPower cloud monitoring and optional RMCARD205 integration. Identify the supported software and firmware for the actual hosts before deciding which package is equivalent. Alerting, remote status and graceful shutdown are separate functions. The comparison should include required licenses, network configuration and the person responsible for updates, rather than assuming every network-capable listing provides the same installed system.

A documented requirement should decide the final order

Keep the APC in contention when its resolved rated basis, outlet mix and supported management configuration meet the requirement. Keep the CyberPower when its exact 2,000VA and 2,000W configuration meets the same gates and any extra capacity is useful. If the purchase relies on the disputed APC maximum fields, resolve that condition before ordering. An attractive seller total does not turn a specification conflict into an accepted design assumption.

Before buying through an Amazon model search, verify the full regional SKU, seller condition, input arrangement, support kit, network-card inclusion and battery-service parts. Retain the manufacturer clarification with the quote. That record is particularly useful at the next replacement because another buyer can see why the design used a particular limit instead of repeating the same title-based mistake.
