What should drive the choice?
Choose PDUMH20NET2LX when its 16A continuous allowance, exact input arrangement and individual outlet commands match the rack. Validate the service impact of every recovery or load-shedding action.
Research based on linked manufacturer documentation. We have not physically tested this equipment.

A switched PDU for an already defined power plan
The Eaton PDUMH20NET2LX is a relevant candidate when a rack needs individual outlet commands and has a source appropriate for its input arrangement. The higher current class can accommodate a different load plan from the 15A-class version, but it does not increase socket count. Both decisions need evidence: how much power the rack may require, and which equipment the administrator must control.
Its practical value can include remote maintenance, an approved appliance recovery or removing a selected nonessential load. Those actions should be defined before installation. This review examines manufacturer documents and operating implications. We have not issued commands to a sample, tested a recovery loop, evaluated relay endurance or measured energy consumption.
Twenty-amp service class, sixteen amps continuous
The current specification explicitly lists agency derating to 16A continuous and 1.92kW at 120V in its capacity details. It recommends a 20A 120V service. That distinction matters: the service class is not permission to maintain a 20A connected load. The product has eight individually switched NEMA 5-15/20R outputs and a 12ft input cord.
| Requirement | PDUMH20NET2LX specification | Buyer interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Continuous current | 16A agency derated | Use the continuous figure in the aggregate plan |
| Source arrangement | Attached L5-20P; supplied 5-20P adapter described | Confirm compatible source and package contents |
| Control | Eight individually switched outputs | Define the safe action for each load |
| Observation | Total PDU current in amps | Does not establish per-outlet energy metering |
| Management | Current offering includes WEBCARDLX with PADM20 | Match instructions to the delivered platform |
| Clearance | 4.25in body depth; 9.3in minimum rack depth listed | Allow plugs, bends and access |
Count power-supply cords independently of equipment chassis. Eight sockets can disappear quickly when several devices have two supplies. Check the demand on each feed during the relevant normal and failure conditions, including what the surviving supply may carry. A switched PDU provides control points, while the complete upstream arrangement determines independence and capacity.
Confirm the exact source connection
The product sheet describes an attached NEMA L5-20P cord and a 5-20P adapter for a compatible source. Verify the intended connection and ensure that the actual seller package includes the specified accessory where it is needed. Do not interpret the multiple connector names in a catalog line as interchangeable permission to use any available receptacle.
For a UPS-fed installation, check the UPS output arrangement, remaining capacity and relevant instructions alongside the PDU documentation. An input plug that fits is only one condition. Measure the cable route through the cabinet and to the source, including turns and controlled slack. A quotation that omits those checks can be electrically or physically incomplete even when the model itself is suitable.
The LX suffix must survive the purchasing process
Current information identifies WEBCARDLX with PowerAlert Device Manager, called PADM20. Preserve the complete PDUMH20NET2LX identifier in the order and acceptance record. A similar model name, a generic network-card description or an old SNMPWEBCARD interface does not establish the current LX configuration. Obtain actual card and firmware details when evaluating older stock.
Use the documentation for the installed platform and current release when commissioning. Older SNMPWEBCARD instructions for related hardware are not a substitute for LX configuration guidance. Keep firmware review, configuration backups and administrative ownership with the organization's other managed equipment. Buying the network feature creates an endpoint that needs maintenance for the recovery workflow to remain dependable.
An outlet can represent more than one service
Build the power map around the services affected by an action. For example, if a selected receptacle feeds a PoE switch, cycling that switch may also interrupt endpoints powered by it. An outlet label that names only the switch may omit the operational impact. Include those downstream dependencies in the recovery procedure so a person issuing the command understands what will go unavailable.
A dual-supply device creates a different ambiguity: cycling one supply may leave the chassis running, while removing both changes the resilience state entirely. Define the intended outcome and the required authorization. Do not allow the interface's ability to control several outlets together to stand in for a service-specific procedure. The equipment and application requirements determine which power actions are appropriate.
Choose the shedding list before an incident
Eaton lists load-shedding capability among this model's features. A useful implementation starts with an agreed priority list and a restoration plan. Identify which services may stop, which dependencies must remain available and how the load reduction will be verified. A receptacle serving shared infrastructure may be a poor shedding target even if the directly connected appliance looks nonessential in a simple inventory.
Also decide how a stopped service returns. Immediate restoration of all selected loads can create a different operating condition from normal steady use. Follow the supported scheduling and control documentation and validate the actual sequence under an approved plan. Do not assign arbitrary delays solely because another rack used them successfully. The objective is controlled service recovery, not only an energized outlet indicator.
Auto Probe requires deliberate conditions
The current offering includes IP-based Auto Probe. Eaton's solution guide explains probes and configurable actions. Choose what a failed reachability check should mean at this site before linking it to power control. A routing issue, planned maintenance or an address change can look different operationally from a device that requires a restart, even if all produce a missed response.
Verify the target, action, timing and maintenance suspension procedure using the documentation for the installed firmware. Distinguish a management-card self-restart from cycling an equipment outlet. Keep a record of the intended behavior and observe it in a controlled acceptance exercise. This review does not claim that a default probe setup is appropriate for a particular network or that autonomous recovery was tested on our equipment.
Individual switching does not establish individual measurement
The published current display reports total PDU output in amps. Eight independent control points do not establish eight independent energy meters. A buyer needing per-device kilowatt-hours, chargeback or a specified measurement accuracy should obtain explicit support for those functions from another suitable product specification. Keep those requirements distinct from the ability to reboot a cord.
Aggregate current can still support a capacity record when readings are interpreted with workload context. A value observed during a light period is not evidence of every relevant peak. Compare changes with the inventory and planned operating condition, and identify who investigates an unexpected result. Remote data collection is useful when the team knows what it should trigger.
Use the mechanical drawing for a close cabinet
The current page gives a 4.25in chassis depth and a 9.3in minimum rack depth. The model submittal drawing provides views of the enclosure, brackets, retention hardware and interfaces. Consult it when the cabinet is tight. Some downloadable product-sheet dimension fields are zero placeholders, which should not be used as installation measurements.
Leave access to identify the correct cord and to reach the local display and configuration interface. Route power and network cables so routine service does not require disturbing unrelated feeds. Confirm mounting parts, retention pieces, configuration cable and applicable warranty in the actual package. A new-model photograph cannot establish that a resale includes all accessories.
Verdict
PDUMH20NET2LX fits a clearly defined switched-power workflow on an appropriate source and a sixteen-amp continuous plan. Its eight outlets provide control flexibility, while the surrounding service dependencies determine how that authority should be used. Confirm the full LX configuration, source arrangement and installed clearance, then validate recovery and shedding actions before making them operational dependencies.
